OH Leuven Rejects FC Porto's €5m Loan Offer for Davis Opoku

OH Leuven have turned down FC Porto's proposal to take 2007‑born Belgian right‑back Davis Opoku on loan with a €5 million purchase option, despite the Portuguese club's concrete steps to secure the player this summer; Opoku’s 28‑match, five‑assist season in the Jupiler Pro League in the top flight and a contract running to June 2028 give the Belgian side a strong negotiating position. Negotiations between OH Leuven and FC Porto remain ongoing despite the initial rejection. Feyenoord are also monitoring the young defender’s development closely. Opoku’s contract with OH Leuven runs until June 2028. This long‑term deal places the club in a strong negotiating position. Born in 2007, Davis Opoku is regarded as one of Belgium’s top talents at right‑back. His rapid rise has attracted interest from clubs abroad. He progressed through OH Leuven’s academy to become a regular in the first team. His key attributes are speed, attacking impulses, physical strength and comfort on the ball, fitting the demands of modern full‑backs. Internationally, Opoku has earned nine caps for Belgium’s U19 side. During the 2025/2026 season he featured in 28 matches across all national competitions and contributed five assists. Transfermarkt values him at €800,000. Given foreign interest and his lengthy contract, a transfer fee could be considerably higher, and OH Leuven view the upcoming summer as crucial, with FC Porto the most concrete suitor while Feyenoord also keeps a close watch.
