Olise sparks controversy at Bayern after red card vs Viking Stavanger
Michael Olise, Bayern Munich player, found himself at the centre of controversy after receiving the first red card of his professional career in Tuesday's match against Viking Stavanger; “That cannot be done”, Lothar Matthäus declared, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident.
The incident that changed the score
In the 74th minute, after a provocation by Zlatko Tripic, captain of the Norwegian side, Olise threw the ball at the opponent's face and the referee showed him a red card, forcing him to leave the field. Bayern were left with ten players and Viking took advantage of the superiority to bring the score to 3-3 in the 90th minute.
Reaction from Bayern's management
Javier Alfaro, head of the Football section, noted that Olise's behaviour did not go unnoticed by Lothar Matthäus, former player and institution of Bayern, who did not hesitate to criticize him publicly. Matthäus stated that the Frenchman let himself be provoked and that the reaction was unacceptable.

Comments from Lothar Matthäus
In an interview, Matthäus explained that although opponents try to unsettle star players, “you cannot justify a player of Olise's calibre receiving such a severe sanction”. He added that the dismissal harmed the team and that Bayern paid dearly for the lack of emotional control.
Matthäus also rejected the need for a financial penalty, describing the reprimand as a “public ear‑pull”. According to him, the Frenchman must learn to manage moments of provocation to avoid repeating similar situations.
The case has sparked debate on social media, where Tripic was harassed after his provocation, and Bayern captain Kompany rebuked Olise for the dismissal, reminding that talent must be accompanied by discipline.
