Oranje's final WC training as storm threat looms over Tunisia clash
The Netherlands completed a full training session in Kansas City ahead of their World Cup group-stage finale against Tunisia. The match kicks off at 1.00am Dutch time on Friday, local 6pm Thursday in Kansas City.
All first-team players were present, including Jan Paul van Hecke, Quinten Timber, Frenkie de Jong, Crysencio Summerville and Virgil van Dijk, who had earlier carried minor knocks into the tournament. None were absent from Wednesday’s session.
Weather remains the biggest concern. Thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday, with light rain expected from 9.00am local time and heavier downpours and lightning possible through kick-off. The Kansas City stadium has no roof, and FIFA rules mandate a 30-minute suspension if lightning strikes within 13km of the ground.
The Dutch session was open to media for the first 15 minutes before switching to closed doors. Ronald Koeman and Ryan Gravenberch will hold a joint press conference at 22.30 Dutch time, streamed live on .nl and the app.
Media presence was heavier than in previous weeks, with journalists lining the training pitch in search of the latest glimpse of the squad.
The stakes are clear: a win over Tunisia would secure first place in Group F. The Netherlands currently sit top on goal difference after two matches, level on four points with Japan, who face Sweden in a simultaneous kick-off.
If Oranje top the group, they face the runner-up from Group C in the first knockout round. That match is scheduled for 3.00am Dutch time on Monday 30 June.
Supporters in Kansas City face a wet Thursday, with light rain from 9.00am local time, escalating to heavy rain and thunderstorms that may persist until and beyond kick-off at 6.00pm.
Dutch fans can join a pre-match celebration in the Power & Light District from 9.30am, featuring performances by Yuki, FeestDJRuud, Yves Berendse and JEA. The Oranje parade departs the city centre at 11.15am, led by the Oranjebus.
The match will be broadcast live on .nl, the app, NPO 1 television and NPO Radio 1. Blind and partially sighted viewers can access live audio description on NPO 1 Extra (channel 81) and NPO Start.
