Pedro Rodriguez Ledesma stops after three Champions League titles

The 39‑year‑old Spanish Pedro Rodriguez Ledesma, three‑time Champions League winner with FC Barcelona, announces via an emotional Instagram post his football retirement, bringing to an end a decade full of European and world titles. After 794 official matches, 197 goals and 65 internationals, he now chooses a new chapter off the pitch.

A glorious trophy haul

Pedro, better known as Pedro, became European champion, world champion and won the Champions League three times. In addition to the three Champions League trophies he collected with Barça three European Super Cups, five La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey victories and two Club‑World Cups. With Chelsea he won the Europa League in the 2018/19 season, an English league title and an FA‑Cup.

Emotional farewell on Instagram

In his Instagram post he wrote: “I feel that this is the moment. The moment to take a step back and start a new chapter in my life. I am proud that I have lived my dream and grateful for everyone who has supported me.” The video message emphasized his thanks to the fans, clubs and family.

What the future holds

Pedro’s last club was SS Lazio, where after his contract expired in July this year he did not embark on a new adventure. Since then he has been a free agent, but has decided to retire from professional football. He recalls his youth on a sand field in Tenerife, where as a twenty‑year‑old he began the dream that later took him to the greatest team in Barça’s history.

At international level the Spanish player represented his country 65 times, won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. He played in two World Cups and two European Championships, and started in the final of the 2010 World Cup against the Netherlands.

Pedro also thanks in his message the coaches, teammates and supporters who have helped him over the years. “The best were you, not the titles,” said the 39‑year‑old, who now keeps his heart with Barça but is ready for a new chapter off the pitch.
