PSV held to 2-2 by Fortuna Sittard as Bosz fumes over missed chances and defensive lapses

PSV Eindhoven were forced to settle for a 2-2 home draw against Fortuna Sittard, leaving the Eredivisie side with just one point from two matches and slipping back into mid‑table contention. The stalemate highlighted defensive frailties and a lack of clear-cut chances, prompting questions about Peter Bosz's tactical setup.

Bosz made it clear that the performance fell short of the standards he expects at PSV, stating, "It is not the way we want to play. We did not execute the game plan we have trained for." The Dutch coach warned that the club demands a higher level and labelled the draw a disappointment.

He explained that Fortuna's strategy of crowding the sixteen‑meter box and applying a high press was anticipated, yet PSV struggled to penetrate. "We knew exactly what they would do. They press high, you have to get through that. We did not do it well," Bosz said, underscoring the team's inability to create meaningful opportunities.

Defending his recent midfield and defensive reshuffle, Bosz described the changes as "perhaps very bold but, in my opinion, it worked well" because Fortuna failed to generate clear chances in the first half. He added that the early phase of the game demonstrated the system's potential, even if the final result did not reflect it.

A pivotal moment arrived when Ryan Flamingo mistimed a header back to Matej Kovar, allowing Ole Romeny to score the opening goal. Bosz labelled the incident "bad" rather than "sloppy," emphasizing that it was an individual mistake that cost the team.

He rejected the notion that the error signalled a systemic flaw, insisting that isolated lapses do not equate to a failure of the overall system. "If you play a bad back‑pass or someone like Ruben plays it twice through the middle, that has nothing to do with the system," he argued.

When pressed about the team's playing style, Bosz grew visibly irritated, telling a reporter to "stop" and describing the line of questioning as "odd." Despite his frustration, he reiterated that PSV must raise its level and convert the tactical ideas into results.

Looking ahead, Bosz said the squad will review the match footage and work on breaking high presses, aiming to turn the tactical adjustments into tangible outcomes in the next fixture.
