PSV outbids Ajax for Sven Mijnans, €13m move reshapes midfield
PSV Eindhoven have agreed to sign midfielder Sven Mijnans from AZ Alkmaar for a total fee of €13 million, with a medical scheduled in Eindhoven on Monday and a long‑term contract to follow. The deal, announced on 5 July 2026, sees PSV outbidding Ajax, which had also shown serious interest.
PSV pursued Mijnans because he emerged as one of AZ’s best players, helping the club win the KNVB Cup last season and reaching the latter stages of the Europa Conference League. The Dutch side also wants an extra option on the midfielder to secure depth in the middle of the park.
Born in Spijkenisse, Mijnans debuted as a 20‑year‑old for Sparta Rotterdam and remained there until 2023, when Rotterdam sold him to AZ for €2.5 million. PSV are now paying a multiple of that amount to buy out his contract, which AZ had extended to mid‑2029.

The €13 million fee is slightly lower than earlier estimates and beats offers from several foreign clubs, even though PSV could not invoke a direct purchase clause. Mijnans met the agreed conditions with AZ, allowing the transfer to proceed at the stated price. For PSV, the signing adds a proven Dutch midfielder and completes a move that denied Ajax a key target, strengthening their squad for domestic and European ambitions. For Mijnans, the long‑term deal at Eindhoven offers a fresh challenge and the chance to continue his development at a club competing on multiple fronts.Bosz's crossroads: PSV contract till 2028 versus Dutch coach hopes
