Rafael van der Vaart pushes Bayern to sign Frenkie de Jong as he recovers
Frenkie de Jong, midfielder of FC Barcelona and of the Netherlands national team, is in the final stretch of his conservative treatment after tearing the medial collateral ligament in his right knee suffered at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. While the player prepares to return to training next week, Rafael van der Vaart’s opinion puts the Dutchman back on Bayern Munich’s radar.
Recovery and availability
De Jong, 29, chose a rehabilitation process that will allow him to rejoin the squad without setbacks, the club said. The idea is for the Dutch midfielder to join the squad after the break and, if everything progresses as expected, be able to play again by the end of October.
Van der Vaart’s recommendation
Rafael van der Vaart, former star of the Netherlands national team, said on the Phrasenmäher podcast that Bayern Munich “would do well to sign Frenkie de Jong”. When journalist Henning Feindt asked him which Dutch player the club should sign, Van answered without hesitation: “Frenkie de Jong of FC Barcelona”.
Van also noted that Joshua Kimmich’s spell at Bayern could end soon, and that De Jong “would further improve Bayern, even playing alongside Kimmich”. He added that, after Rodri’s arrival at Barça and the presence of Pedri, Bernal, Gavi, Olmo and Fermin, coach Julian Flick has multiple options in midfield.
The German club, according to the information, is already considering the possibility of bringing in the Dutch midfielder once his recovery is complete, although no concrete agreement has been announced.
Journalists Alejandro García and Roger Torelló of the EFE agency were responsible for disseminating the news, highlighting the proximity of the rehabilitation process and the attention the case receives in the Netherlands.
