Ralf Rangnick doubts Milan sporting director offer

Serie A club Milan have presented an offer to appoint Ralf Rangnick as sporting director. Rangnick, former Manchester United manager, has expressed doubts about the deal. He worries his contractual demands may not be fulfilled at Milan. Rangnick also fears a large number of influential figures could limit his decision‑making. The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) have also put forward a proposal to Rangnick. President Josef Pröll secured board approval at the end of 2025 to extend Rangnick’s contract after an earlier stalemate. The ÖFB board cited Rangnick’s excessive demands as the reason for the earlier impasse. Executives were concerned he might turn the federation into a “Rangnick corporation”. The ÖFB offered a contract extension worth just over €1 million, matching Rangnick’s current salary. Rangnick had previously turned down offers from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Rangnick argues that Milan’s internal politics could undermine his radical ideas and seeks written guarantees on sporting priorities. The article was compiled by Kaustubh Pandey.
