Raul Asencio praises Mourinho era, backs Bernardo Silva move
Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio said he is excited about Jose Mourinho’s new project at the Santiago Bernabeu. He made the comments while attending the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix in Montmelo. Asencio also addressed speculation that Bernardo Silva could join Real Madrid.
Asencio recalled Mourinho’s first spell, noting the competitiveness, passion and grit the Portuguese coach introduced. He said those traits match his own playing style and could help Real Madrid reclaim the La Liga title. He added he looks forward to starting under Mourinho.
Regarding Bernardo Silva, Asencio called the Portuguese international very good and said his arrival would be a real boost for the squad. He said Real Madrid would welcome any top‑level addition with open arms. He praised the project being built at the club.
Asencio confirmed he is not part of Spain’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad, noting that former coach Luis de la Fuente had previously called him up without making him a regular. He expressed support for La Roja and wished them success. He predicted a 4‑0 victory over Cape Verde in Spain’s opening match.
