Real Madrid eye €40‑50m sale as left‑back surplus mounts

🇪🇸
Real Madrid are prepared to entertain offers of €40‑50 million for left‑back Alvaro Carreras this summer, a year after the player arrived from his 2025 signing, as the club seeks to trim a surplus of defenders following the addition of Marc Cucurella. Alvaro Carreras arrived at Real Madrid last summer after Xabi Alonso specifically requested his signing, and he subsequently became the de facto starter at left‑back for most of the campaign. His performances secured him a regular place until the club bolstered the position further. Real Madrid already possessed depth in the role, with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia also on the roster, and the original plan was to offload one defender during the summer window. The arrival of Marc Cucurella has now created a quartet of left‑backs, intensifying the need for a sale. New manager Jose Mourinho has expressed doubts about Carreras’ profile fitting his tactical dynamics, indicating he would not assign the player a major role. Mourinho, however, does not rule out the defender staying, merely limiting his importance. The club has signalled openness to offers for Carreras, targeting a transfer fee between €40 million and €50 million and eyeing the Premier League as the most likely destination. Among the surplus options, Carreras is deemed the most marketable, while Ferland Mendy is considered practically unsellable and Fran Garcia is viewed as a better backup. Recent activity at the Spanish capital shows Los Blancos working hard to balance the books, with Dani Ceballos’ contract termination and the departures of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba already easing the wage bill. Yet the club still seeks at least one major outbound move, and although Eduardo Camavinga has been linked, Carreras now emerges as a comparable candidate. Should a Premier League suitor meet the €40‑50 million price, Carreras could leave before the campaign begins, leaving Real Madrid to rely on Mendy, Garcia and Cucurella for the left side. The outcome will shape the club’s defensive roster and its financial balancing act this summer.
