Real Madrid eye Manchester City defenders for Mourinho
Real Madrid are reportedly targeting two Manchester City defenders to satisfy Jose Mourinho’s summer recruitment plan. Mourinho has told the club he wants 4‑6 signings focused on defence or central midfield. The specific City players named are Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes.
Mourinho has also identified West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes as a central‑midfield target. Ibrahima Konate, a free agent after leaving Liverpool, and Denzel Dumfries, for whom Real Madrid would trigger a €20 million release clause, are expected to be the first two arrivals.
Links have circulated linking Real Madrid with Josko Gvardiol, but the club’s immediate focus is on the City duo. Manchester City have indicated little intention to sell either Dias or Nunes despite interest from several clubs following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
Mourinho believes Dias would bring experience and surpass Dean Huijsen in quality. He also sees Dumfries as a potential alternative to Nunes, who has played right‑back under Guardiola but is naturally a central midfielder, a position Real Madrid aim to reinforce.
