Real Madrid eyes €12.5 million windfall in Milan’s Gila bid
A €25 million fee for Mario Gila could deliver Real Madrid a €12.5 million windfall as AC Milan move to secure the 25‑year‑old centre‑back, with the Spanish giants retaining half of his economic rights. The deal, reported by Sky Sport Italia, would see the club cash in on the player’s future after four seasons in Italy.
Mario Gila is a former Real Madrid academy graduate who left the club in 2022 to join Lazio in Serie A. Real Madrid still own 50 % of his registration, meaning a €25 million transfer would translate into a €12.5 million payment to Los Blancos.
During his four‑year spell at Lazio, Gila amassed more than 120 official appearances, including 31 league matches last season. He kept seven clean sheets and averaged close to ten defensive actions per game, establishing himself as a central defensive mainstay.
His performances have attracted interest from clubs such as Napoli, while AC Milan are reported to be close to finalising the deal. There is little talk of Gila being an option for Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are also scouting a new centre‑back and could use the incoming funds to target Alessandro Bastoni.
The prospective windfall follows other lucrative sales this summer, with Real Madrid already profiting from the departures of Nico Paz, Victor Munoz and Alvaro Rodriguez. Retaining partial rights to former players continues to bolster the club’s financial strategy in a competitive transfer market.
