Real Madrid interest in Manchester City defender Ruben Dias

Manchester City are unlikely to cash in on defender Ruben Dias this summer, as his contract runs until 2029 and the club faces no immediate pressure despite reported interest from Real Madrid. The 29‑year‑old Portuguese international made 33 appearances and scored two goals for City last season.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke discussed the situation on the Transfer Insider podcast, noting that “it does seem that there is some interest from Real Madrid in Dias, and the lure of a move to Madrid would be difficult to ignore for any player, not just him.” He added that the saga could extend into the summer, but Manchester City do not want to lose Dias.

Dias featured in 33 matches for Manchester City across all competitions last season, contributing two goals from his centre‑back position. The 29‑year‑old stands 1.87 m tall and is regarded as one of the Premier League’s most experienced defenders.

His current contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2029, meaning the club faces no urgent need to sell him in the current transfer window. The deal ties him to the Etihad Stadium for several more seasons, reinforcing the club’s defensive stability.

A photo by Carlos Rodrigues for Getty Images captured Dias representing Portugal in a friendly against Chile at Estadio Nacional do Jamor in Lisbon on 6 June 2026. The image underscores his role as a Portugal international and his continued presence on the international stage.

Known for solid tackling, reading danger and clearing lines, Dias uses his 1.87 m frame to dominate aerial duels and often initiates play from the back. If he favours a move to Real Madrid, Manchester City could consider cashing in for a good offer before the close of the summer transfer window.
