Real Madrid must prune 27-man squad before further signings
Real Madrid have assembled a 27‑player first‑team roster, a figure that could rise to 28 if Thiago Pitarch is added, and the club now faces the need to trim numbers before pursuing additional signings. The urgency comes as the summer transfer window enters its early stages.
The club’s recent activity includes signings of Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate. Manager Jose Mourinho acknowledges that the squad is overloaded and must be reduced.
Real Madrid currently list 27 first‑team players, a number that could become 28 with the addition of Thiago Pitarch. One incoming player may need to be registered with Castilla while another would occupy the No. 25 shirt, a situation the club deems unsustainable.
In defence, Raul Asencio and Fran Garcia are the clearest names on the transfer list. Asencio’s options are limited by the presence of Eder Militao, Ibrahima Konate, Dean Huijsen and Antonio Rudiger, and he is regarded as expendable.
Real Madrid keep Endrick, reject new loan
Fran Garcia’s situation is acute, with Alvaro Carreras considered untouchable, prompting interest from Betis and Bournemouth. Real Madrid will not entertain any offer without a suitable bid. Midfield sees Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos in varying exit discussions. Tchouameni would only depart for a significant fee, Camavinga’s exit door is slightly more open but the club refuses a cheap sale, and Ceballos is targeted mainly to free squad space.Mourinho's tactical overhaul aims to unleash Mbappe at Real Madrid
Up front, Franco Mastantuono, Brahim Diaz and Gonzalo Garcia are under review. Mastantuono could leave on loan, Diaz wants to stay, and Mourinho has halted Gonzalo’s departure to assess him personally despite competition from Mbappe and Endrick. The next phase of the summer window will focus on whether Asencio, Garcia, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Ceballos, Mastantuono, Diaz and Gonzalo ultimately exit the club. The final number of departures will become clear in the coming weeks.
