RFEF chief Rafael Louzan pushes for 2030 final at Camp Nou or Bernabeu

RFEF President Rafael Louzan has declared that Spain will push for the 2030 World Cup final to be staged at either Barcelona’s Camp Nou or Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu. He said the tournament’s climax must take place on Spanish soil, underscoring the federation’s ambition as co‑host alongside Portugal and Morocco. The 2030 edition will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with a handful of opening matches also allocated to Argentina and Uruguay. This multi‑nation format gives Spain a pivotal role in the competition’s organization. Louzan told Mundo Deportivo that he has “full confidence” the final will be played on Spanish soil. He added, “The World Cup final has to be at Camp Nou or at the Bernabeu,” emphasizing the two venues he deems suitable. He argued that Spain’s claim outweighs Morocco’s Casablanca stadium, noting that the tournament originated between Spain and Portugal before Morocco joined later. Louzan said, “It would not be understood if Spain were not the venue for the World Cup final,” reinforcing the historical argument.

While acknowledging that FIFA will make the ultimate decision, Louzan praised the Santiago Bernabeu as “spectacular.” He highlighted that the Barcelona stadium is still being finished and that the Bernabeu’s capacity advantage of roughly 25,000 seats is “an important detail.” From a Real Madrid perspective, the Bernabeu is a modern, centrally located, globally iconic arena already linked to major club nights. Camp Nou’s future higher capacity could be a major point for Barcelona, but the Bernabeu offers a completed elite venue in the capital. Louzan noted that Spain holds “55 percent weight in the organization” of the 2030 World Cup. He affirmed that “the final word belongs to FIFA and we are going to defend Spain’s interests,” signalling a firm stance. The federation will continue lobbying FIFA, hoping the final venue decision favours the Santiago Bernabeu. The outcome will determine whether Spain secures the tournament’s marquee match on home ground.
