Roma and Dybala at stalemate over €3 million salary demand

AS Roma are negotiating a new contract with Argentine forward Dybala, who is demanding a higher salary, while the club continues talks with his agent Pietro Scala. Roma have offered €2 million base plus €60,000 per appearance of at least 45 minutes, a figure that would have added roughly €840,000 to Dybala’s earnings last season.

Sporting director Tony D’Amico is personally overseeing the renewal talks for Celik, Pellegrini and Dybala. Celik is close to signing a new deal that would pay him roughly €2.8 million plus bonuses, while the terms for Pellegrini and Dybala remain under discussion.

For Dybala, Roma’s proposal of €2 million salary plus €60,000 per appearance of at least 45 minutes would have generated about €840,000 extra last season, based on his 14 qualifying appearances. The Argentine forward countered with a request for €3 million with a reduced variable component, or alternatively €2 million plus €60,000 per appearance without any minute threshold, which would lift his total earnings to roughly €1.32 million.

The club has not yet issued a definitive response to either of Dybala’s proposals. Negotiations have been conducted for weeks, with the gap between the club’s offer and the player’s demands still unbridged.

Ryan Friedkin has been handling the talks directly, assisted by Dybala’s agent Pietro Scala. D’Amico’s recent appointment to the sporting department is expected to speed up the process, although no final agreement has been reached.

Overall, Roma’s contract renewal campaign is described as progressing well, with several key players already near agreement. The use of appearance‑based bonuses reflects the club’s strategy to align player compensation with playing time.

If Dybala’s €3 million demand is met, his salary would surpass the current offers for his teammates. Conversely, accepting the €2 million base with unrestricted appearance fees would still represent a significant increase over the club’s original calculation.
