Roma inquire about Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara

Roma have formally requested information from Napoli about the possible transfer of Antonio Vergara. The inquiry comes as the capital club evaluates its options for the 2003‑born attacking midfielder. Vergara burst onto the Napoli first team in January, earning a place after a spate of injuries in the squad. He delivered three goals and four assists in 926 minutes, including a striking goal against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage. His performances impressed Napoli coach Conte despite the player’s later muscle injury that ended his season early. Vergara is one of the few youth products to emerge during the De Laurentiis era at Napoli. The inquiry is linked to Roma manager Gasperini’s interest in strengthening his midfield. Besides Roma, Como and Atalanta have each signalled willingness to spend €25 million for Vergara. Napoli have received interest from three Italian clubs but appear inclined to retain the youngster, with a contract renewal under consideration.
