Roma's left‑side gap drives pursuit of Ivory Coast talent

🇮🇹

Roma’s summer agenda hinges on plugging a left‑side void after prioritising Mason Greenwood, and the club has turned its attention to 23‑year‑old Martial Godo. The Ivory Coast international, whose World Cup campaign ended early, is valued at roughly €30 million by Strasbourg.

Gasperini’s primary target remains Mason Greenwood, but the coach also insists on securing a left‑handed option to balance the squad. This strategic need has prompted the Giallorossi to widen their search beyond the English forward.

Earlier, Gian Piero Gasperini’s preferred candidate was Crysencio Summerville, yet the World Cup raised his market price and salary expectations. Those financial hurdles have forced the Italian side to explore alternative profiles.

Martial Godo, 23, emerged as a surprising option after his Ivory Coast side’s early World Cup exit. Strasbourg have placed his transfer fee at around €30 million, reflecting his perceived potential.

Roma have formally expressed interest in Godo and are negotiating with Strasbourg over the possible acquisition of Diego Moreira, another target for the Giallorossi. Director Tony D’Amico’s shortlist also features Feyenoord’s Sauer and Tottenham’s Tel.

A loan proposal from Garnacho was floated in recent days, but it failed to fully convince the Roman board. Consequently, work continues at Trigoria to satisfy Gasperini’s requirements and finalize any deal.
