Ronald Koeman Gives Netherlands Squad Day Off Ahead of Sweden Clash

Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman granted his squad a day off in Kansas City on Wednesday. The break comes as the team prepares for its second group match against Sweden at the World Cup. The players returned to the Kansas City base after flying from Dallas, where they trained on Monday under the watch of family and friends. The Netherlands opened the tournament in Dallas with a 2‑2 draw against Japan. A training session and media briefing scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled by the KNVB. Off‑days are common during tournament camps when the match calendar allows. Three further training sessions remain before the Sweden game, with Koeman free to select from the full roster. Both Memphis Depay and Justin Kluivert will train with the squad. The team departs Friday for Houston, Texas, roughly 1,200 km south of Kansas City. A press conference with Koeman and a player is set for 01:30, followed by the Netherlands‑Sweden match at 19:00 on Saturday 20 June. The fixture will be the second group encounter for the Dutch side.
