Rosalía apologises to Argentina after mocking the Selección
Spanish singer Rosalía arrived in Argentina to begin her Lux Tour shows after a controversy that erupted when she shared a video of former adult‑film actress Mia Khalifa celebrating España’s title while Rosalía’s song “La Perla” played, mocking the Argentine Selección. The post went viral and sparked calls for ticket refunds ahead of four scheduled concerts in Buenos Aires.
The clip showed Mia Khalifa celebrating the title of España with “La Perla” in the background. By posting it, Rosalía inadvertently linked the song to a jab at the Selección Argentina.
The video spread rapidly across platforms, prompting a cascade of questioning from Argentine fans. Within days, some followers announced plans to reclaim ticket money, though EFE reported that refund requests represented only about one percent of tickets sold.
Rosalía removed the video and broke her silence the following day via two Instagram stories. She wrote, “Le di a compartir porque sonaba La Perla y ni leí lo que ponía, mala mía. Perdón…”, acknowledging she had not read the accompanying text.
Hours later she posted a simple heart emoji accompanied by the line “Solo tengo amor por Argentina”. The brief note was intended to close the rapidly escalating dispute.
Argentine Chancellor Pablo Quirno later noted that the social‑media backlash had “caused a retreat in sandal sales” and “hurt the pocket”. He also referenced the modest 1 % refund demand, underscoring the limited financial impact.
Prior to the controversy, Rosalía’s relationship with Argentine audiences had been warm, highlighted by a recent visit to Buenos Aires where she toured landmarks and stepped inside the Bombonera stadium. During that trip she met local musicians Charly García and Trueno, reinforcing her connection with the city.
After apologising, the Catalan singer travelled to Argentina to fulfil four Lux Tour concerts scheduled for 1, 2, 4 and 6 August at the Movistar Arena. Earlier in the week she had performed in Chile, a show reported by EFE.
