Rudiger comes off bench as Germany beats Curacao 7-1
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger featured for Germany as a substitute in their 7-1 victory over Curacao in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group E opener.
It was the only match on the day that included a Real Madrid player.
Coach Julien Nagelsmann opted for a younger central‑defence pairing, starting Jonathan Tah alongside Nico Schlotterbeck.
Rudiger entered in the 73rd minute, replacing Tah as Germany were already in control.

Germany's dominance continued, with Kai Havertz scoring twice and further goals from Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav. By the time Rudiger came on, the scoreline was already heavily in Germany's favour. Rudiger's task was to help close out the final stages without incident, providing experience for Nagelsmann as the tournament intensifies. His peripheral role leaves his future involvement with the national side uncertain. Photo credit: Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images.
