World Cup

Saibari aims world title, eyes possible Dutch clash

PSV forward Ismael Saibari said after Morocco's 4-2 victory over Haiti at the World Cup that his ambition is to lift the trophy, even as a possible clash with the Netherlands looms in the round of 16. Saibari enjoyed a dream start to the tournament, finding the net in Morocco's opening 1-1 draw with Brazil. His early goal underscored his confidence heading into the group stage. He continued his scoring streak in the second group match, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Scotland. The quick strike helped Morocco secure a valuable three points. In the third game, Morocco beat Haiti 4-2, but Saibari failed to add to his tally despite a clear chance. "I found it disappointing," Saibari told , "the ball came a bit behind me and I couldn't get my body underneath it. It was a shame not to score, otherwise it might have been a different match." Brazil's 3-0 victory over Scotland placed Morocco second in the group. The group standings mean Morocco will await the group winner for the round of 16. If the Netherlands tops the group, the two nations could meet in the knockout stage. "I will meet a few friends, which is nice, but if you have a higher goal you must eventually face everyone," Saibari said, adding that his aim is "to reach the final and become world champion." Saibari admitted he has not closely followed the Dutch side, noting, "I haven't watched the Netherlands much to see how they play. We trained when they faced Sweden, so I will see how our coach explains it. Being at a World Cup gives us enough motivation to give everything." Looking ahead, Saibari reiterated that his clear objective is to advance to the final and claim the World Cup title. His focus remains on the team's collective performance rather than individual opponents.
