Sam Lammers demoted to third-choice striker at FC Twente, sparking criticism
Sam Lammers is being disrespected by FC Twente, according to analyst and former professional Anco Jansen. The criticism follows Lammers’ relegation to third-choice striker behind Wout Weghorst and emerging talent Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink.
The situation in Enschede surfaced on Thursday, with Lammers now third in the pecking order at the Grolsch Veste. FC Twente head coach John Brom addressed the issue ahead of the club’s match against DAC 1904.
Jansen stated: “They simply want to get rid of him, that’s clear.” Otherwise, you wouldn’t do this.” He added: “I find it disrespectful to Lammers.”
The analyst also questioned the club’s approach, saying: “There must be reasons, but I have the feeling Erik ten Hag would also have a strong opinion on this. Lammers as a third-choice striker… What is this?” Jansen highlighted the contradiction in Van den Brom’s statements, noting the coach claimed he would use Lammers if needed, praised his training efforts, yet still relegated him to third choice.
“First they saw him off… They want to keep his market value high, or something? It’s clear to everyone. This is an unsustainable situation,” Jansen concluded.
Lammers still has one year left on his contract at FC Twente. The club signed the 29-year-old striker two summers ago from Rangers.
