Sassuolo renews interest in Ajax defender Anton Gaaei

Italian Serie A side Sassuolo has again expressed serious interest in Ajax's Danish defender Anton Gaaei, who noted the club is doing everything to secure the player this summer after initially tracking him during the winter window.

Di Marzio says Gaaei can count on serious interest from Sassuolo. During the winter transfer period the wing‑back was already on the Italian club's radar. It remains unclear whether Sassuolo made a concrete bid at that time.

This summer the Danish defender has re‑emerged as a priority to bolster Sassuolo's back line. Di Marzio quoted the club as saying “they are doing everything to bring him in”. No official negotiations have been confirmed.

Sources have not disclosed whether discussions have begun between Ajax and Sassuolo or with Gaaei’s representatives. The situation therefore remains speculative.

Ajax secured Gaaei from Viborg in the summer of 2023 for a reported €4.5 million. The transfer marked the Danish club’s first major acquisition for the Dutch side.

The defender is under contract with Ajax until mid‑2028, tying him to the Johan Cruijff Arena for the foreseeable future. His current role is as a wing‑back in the Dutch club’s defensive setup.
