Social media frenzy fuels Boca’s hope of Equi Fernández’s return
Los fanáticos de Boca Juniors were left stunned tonight as a flood of comments swept La Ribera, sparked by Kiara Luna’s hopeful reply “Volveremos” to streamer Davoo Xeneize’s viral tribute to former midfielder Ezequiel “Equi” Fernández, who now plies his trade at Bayer Leverkusen.
Fernández cemented himself as an undisputed pillar of Boca’s midfield in 2023 before making the overseas jump the following year, a departure that left a noticeable void in the Argentine side’s creative zone.
The spark originated from a video posted by popular streamer Davoo Xeneize, who openly declared how much he missed the contributions of the 25‑year‑old during his standout spell at the Xeneide.
Luna’s brief “Volveremos” remark ignited a wave of enthusiasm, with thousands of followers instantly demanding a second stint for the blue‑and‑gold shirt wearer, and the phrase quickly trended across social platforms.
The reaction echoed an earlier incident months earlier, when Fernández posted a vacation photo taken in Japan with his partner, dressed in his starting kit and captioned “De gala”, which also stirred Boca supporters.
Born and trained at Boca, Fernández made his first‑team debut in 2021, spent 2022 on loan at Tigre, then returned to help the club capture the Copa Argentina 2019/20 and the Supercopa Argentina 2022.
He closed his Boca chapter after amassing 67 appearances across the league, national cups and continental tournaments, netting two goals – both against Central Córdoba on 20 May in a 4‑2 win at Estadio Madre de Ciudades, Santiago del Estero.
Although a swift return appears unlikely while he remains in Europe, the ongoing public gestures reinforce the lingering dream of a homecoming, underscoring the deep emotional bond between Fernández and the Boca faithful.
