Standard and Charleroi to play behind closed doors 2026-27

The Disciplinary Committee for professional football ruled that matches between Standard and Sporting Charleroi will be played behind closed doors in the 2026-27 season. The decision follows disturbances that erupted during their encounter on 23 May 2026.

The committee issued the sanction after reviewing the incidents on that date. The ruling specifically mandates that no spectators be admitted for the two fixtures scheduled for the 2026-27 campaign.

In addition, the committee stipulated that for the 2027-28 season, away supporters of both clubs will be barred from each other's stadiums. This means that Standard's travelling fans will not be permitted at Charleroi's ground, and vice versa.

Sporting Charleroi, known as the Rouches, announced they will not lodge an appeal against the disciplinary measures. The club's decision signals acceptance of the committee's disciplinary framework.

Standard has not publicly commented on the ruling, leaving its response undisclosed. The sanctions will affect the clubs' matchday revenue and fan engagement for the upcoming seasons.

The closed-door arrangement and supporter bans will be enforced from the start of the 2026-27 league schedule. Both clubs must comply with the restrictions as the committee's decision is final.
