Stefan de Vrij set to leave Inter for Panathinaikos

Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij, 34, is set to depart Inter Milan as his contract expires and sign with Greek side Panathinaikos as a free agent, after seven seasons at the San Siro. The move follows a career that includes 308 Serie A appearances, 20 goals and seven assists. De Vrij has been with Inter since the summer of 2018 and will not be extending his deal, signalling the end of his Serie A stint. His departure his time in Italy is concluding. Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano reported that personal terms have been agreed with Panathinaikos and the clubs await the final all‑clear from the Dutch defender. The agreement positions de Vrij to join the Greek club without a transfer fee. Earlier in his career, de Vrij moved from Feyenoord to Lazio in the summer of 2014 for a fee of €7 million. That transfer marked his first entry into Italian football. During his Serie A tenure he amassed 308 league appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists. These statistics underline his consistency as a central defender. He collected three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies and three Italian Supercups with Inter, and added the 2017‑18 Supercoppa Italiana while at Lazio. The honours reflect a decorated domestic career. A photograph shows de Vrij celebrating his team's first goal in a Serie A match against AC Milan on 2 February 2025 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The image captures his on‑field presence in a high‑profile encounter.
