Stefan Posch dons mask for Argentina after jaw fracture

Stefan Posch, the Austrian defender, will take the field against Argentina wearing a distinctive mask that covers only the lower part of his face. The protective gear follows a jaw fracture he suffered in the opening group match versus Jordan, and a brace now enables him to continue playing. Only the lower half of Posch's face is concealed by the mask, giving it a striking appearance. The design allows him to see and breathe normally while protecting the injured area. Posch is a defender in the Austrian national team. His role in the back line remains unchanged despite the equipment. The injury occurred during Austria's first group game against Jordan, where Posch suffered a fracture to his jaw. Medical staff confirmed the severity of the break. Initial reports suggested his World Cup campaign might be over, but a custom brace has made it possible for him to stay on the pitch. The brace stabilises the fracture while he competes. The Austrian football association shared a comment on Instagram, writing: “There is a new Austrian Terminator”. The post highlighted the mask's futuristic look.
