Sunderland and Fulham compete for Parma defender Mariano Troilo

Sunderland have entered a race with Fulham to sign 22‑year‑old Argentine centre‑back Mariano Troilo, whose contract with Parma runs until summer 2030, according to a ParmaLive report. He made 23 Serie A appearances for Parma last season, scoring once, and stands 1.94 m tall.

Troilo is praised for his tackling and ability to read danger, often regaining possession for Parma. He is also comfortable stepping out of the back line to clear the ball when opponents press.

At 1.94 m, his strong frame allows him to dominate aerial battles against opposing attackers. This physical presence contributed to Parma’s defensive solidity last season.

Sunderland supporters wonder whether Troilo can adjust to the Premier League’s high intensity. The club’s scouting report notes the challenge of translating his Serie A form to English football.

Regis Le Bris believes Troilo could add bite and steel to Sunderland’s defence. He expects the Argentine to compete for a regular starting place at the Stadium of Light.

Troilo’s contract with Parma expires in the summer of 2030, which could complicate a later transfer. Sunderland therefore aim to secure the deal before the current window closes.

Rasmus Hojlund of SSC Napoli contested the ball with Troilo during a Serie A clash on 12 April 2026 at Stadio Ennio Tardini. The match featured Parma Calcio 1913 against SSC Napoli, captured by photographer Emmanuele Ciancaglini.
