Teen striker Hugo Pinilla vows to lead Real Zaragoza’s promotion push
Real Zaragoza’s 19‑year‑old forward Hugo Pinilla has pledged to be at the forefront of the club’s 2024‑25 campaign, promising to open his account with a goal and play a decisive role in the push to return to the Segunda División. The young striker, who completed a full pre‑season with the first‑team squad, said he feels fully integrated at the Boltaña training centre, describing “a very good vibe with all the new teammates and the coaching staff.”
Pinilla highlighted the tactical demands imposed by manager Ibai Gómez, noting that Zaragoza’s system requires “high pressure from the forwards” and a proactive style of play. He added, “The more time we have the ball, the more comfortable the team feels, and the more comfortable I feel,” underscoring the need for quick ball circulation and space creation.
After a turbulent personal year, the striker explained that a month‑and‑a‑half break allowed him to “reset, be with family and friends, and come back with a lot of desire and hope.” He believes that the time away will translate into greater maturity on the pitch.
His immediate personal objectives are straightforward: “to score my first official goal and, after that, achieve promotion to the Segunda División.” Pinilla dismissed last season’s missed opportunity as “just a moment in the match,” stressing that his focus is on future performances rather than past criticism.
The young forward also praised the support from veteran players and the fanbase, stating that “we feel very protected, both by the newcomers and the experienced, and the supporters always back us.” He sees that unity as essential to navigate a competitive league.
Amid rumours of interest from other clubs, Pinilla confirmed his commitment to Zaragoza, saying, “I’m clear that staying here is what I want,” and expressed gratitude for the chance given to him at such a young age.
Finally, Pinilla offered a realistic outlook on the promotion race, acknowledging that “we won’t win every game, but we must manage defeats, stay focused and keep fighting because the league is long.” He concluded with a call to the supporters: “We’re all on the same path and will fight together for promotion if all goes well.”
