Ten Hag celebrates Ruud Nijstad contract extension at FC Twente

Erik ten Hag has expressed his delight over Ruud Nijstad’s contract extension with FC Twente. The highly sought-after defender recently ended transfer speculation by agreeing to a new deal with the Enschede-based club. Ten Hag, FC Twente’s technical director, confirmed the news during the *Sinds 1965* podcast.

"There’s a lot of work involved, but we’re obviously thrilled that a major talent from Twente soil who has earned a starting spot will stay with us longer," Ten Hag said. "That’s fantastic. He’s also a key figure for our local fanbase, which is exactly what we aim to be—a regional club with national and international ambitions."

Ten Hag emphasized the club’s ability to develop Nijstad further. "There was significant interest in Ruud," he added. "He’s an outstanding talent, and we have the expertise to help him progress. Ultimately, he’ll need to deliver on the pitch, but we provide an environment where we can challenge, support, and coach him to reach his potential. At the same time, he’s an immediate asset for next season."

Nijstad, a defender, has become a priority for FC Twente amid competing offers. The club’s decision to retain him follows months of speculation about his future. Ten Hag’s remarks highlight the club’s confidence in both Nijstad’s abilities and their own developmental framework.

The contract extension ensures Nijstad remains at FC Twente beyond the current transfer window, reinforcing the club’s defensive core for the upcoming campaign.
