Tension at end: Hojlund confronts Jorge Jesus after Portuguese win

In the UEFA Nations League match between Denmark and Portugal, which ended with a 4-2 victory for the visitors, Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund was at the centre of a heated confrontation with Portuguese head coach Jorge Jesus at the end of the game.

First-half highlights

The first half saw Portugal take the lead in the thirteenth minute with a penalty converted by João Cancelo, followed at the twenty-third minute by a goal from Christian Damsgaard for Denmark. The tempo remained high, with Portugal doubling the lead in the twenty-fifth minute thanks to Gonçalo Ramos, while Denmark responded at the fifty-fourth minute with a second goal from Damsgaard.

Second half and post‑match tension

In the second half, Hojlund scored in the fifty-third minute, giving Portugal the third goal, followed by Vitinha in the sixty-seventh and João Felix in the eighty-seventh, sealing the final score. Despite the goal, the atmosphere remained tense well beyond the ninetieth minute.

At the final whistle, Jorge Jesus approached Hojlund to lay “some friendly pats on the chest”. The striker, visibly nervous about the result and the course of the match, decisively brushed away the coach’s arm, pushing him away and hurling words of anger, a gesture captured by the cameras on the sidelines.

The confrontation captured media attention, highlighting the high competitive drive and the Danish striker’s bitterness at the end of a hard‑fought contest, before returning to the dressing rooms.

With the win, Portugal closed the third matchday of Group 4 of League A with a perfect score, sitting first with nine points, ahead of Denmark (three points), Norway (three points) and Wales (three points). Norway, however, was beaten by Wales, which finished the game 2‑1.
