Theo Janssen warns Donyell Malen of possible bench for Tunisia
Former midfielder Theo Janssen told De Oranjezomer on Saturday evening that Donyell Malen could be at risk of losing his place for the upcoming match against Tunisia. The Netherlands have already secured four points from two games, putting them one step closer to the next round.
“We hebben Malen allemaal de basis in geroepen,” Janssen began, explaining that the coaching staff called Malen to the basics because they believed he should play. He added that Memphis Depay was not good enough, which is why they felt Malen needed to start.
“We vonden allemaal dat hij moest spelen, omdat Memphis Depay niet goed genoeg was. Nu zie je Brobbey aan het werk. Hij speelde de sterren van de hemel,” he said, lauding Brobbey’s display. Brobbey repaid the coach’s confidence by netting two goals against Sweden.

Cody Gakpo also found the back of the net twice in the Sweden match. Crysencio Summerville added the final goal, completing a strong attacking performance. “Als je dan Summerville ook ziet invallen... Ik denk dat Malen moet vrezen voor een plek op de bank,” Janssen warned. He indicated that Brobbey and Summerville would start in the Tunisia fixture.Netherlands thrash Sweden 5-1 at World Cup with Brobbey and Gakpo goals
Ronald Koeman’s side has collected four points from the two opening matches. With one leg of the next round already in hand, the Dutch squad looks to build on that momentum.
