Thierry Henry hails Pep Guardiola as game-changer
Thierry Henry praised Pep Guardiola following the Catalan’s departure from Manchester City, calling him a special figure who changed the game. The former Arsenal forward made the remarks in a Betway interview after Guardiola left the Etihad Stadium. He said the Premier League lost a unique influence with his exit.
Henry worked under Guardiola at Barcelona from 2007 to 2010, gaining insight into his methods. He recalled predicting in 2016 that Guardiola would dominate English football when the manager arrived at Manchester City. Earlier this season Henry had called Nico O’Reilly a dream come true for Guardiola.
Henry highlighted Guardiola’s tactical imprint, noting the inside‑running full‑back and the revival of the false nine as his signatures. He added that many Manchester City supporters were attracted by the style rather than just the victories.
During his decade at Manchester City, Guardiola secured six Premier League titles, including four consecutive crowns from 2021 to 2024, and amassed a 100‑point season. He also guided the club to a treble, winning the UEFA Champions League, multiple FA Cups and Carabao Cups.
Ilkay Gundogan said Guardiola challenged him to see football differently from day one. Bernardo Silva called Guardiola his ‘father of football’ in his farewell tribute.
