Three‑year deal fuels Maresca’s staff overhaul at Manchester City

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

A three-year contract signed by Enzo Maresca will see him replace Pep Guardiola as head coach of Manchester City. The Italian’s appointment also brings compatriot Roberto Vitiello on board as his assistant manager, confirming a complete overhaul of the club’s backroom staff.

[Getty Images] Manchester City have announced the full coaching team that will accompany Maresca, noting that each member has previously worked with the Italian. The announcement underscores the continuity of Maresca’s preferred personnel across his career.

Maresca, 43, began his playing career at Parma and later featured for Cesena, Vicenza, Rimini, Siena and Palermo, clubs where he crossed paths with several of his new staff. His long‑standing ties to these clubs have shaped the composition of his coaching entourage.

Willy Caballero joins as a first‑team coach, returning to Manchester City after making 48 appearances as a goalkeeper for the club. Caballero helped City secure the 2013‑14 League Cup, famously contributing in the penalty shootout.

The Argentine former teammate of Maresca from their Malaga days under ex‑City boss Manuel Pellegrini adds further familiarity to the staff. Their shared experience in Spain is cited as a factor in Caballero’s recruitment.

Walker also returns to the Etihad, having worked in the academy with Maresca before following him to Leicester and Chelsea, while Denis Silva will hold a comparable first‑team coaching role. Both are expected to integrate Maresca’s tactical philosophy into daily training.

Michele de Bernardin is appointed head of goalkeeping, Marcos Alvarez will serve as fitness coach and Javier Molina takes the analyst position. James French remains as set‑piece coach and Richard Wright continues as goalkeeping coach, maintaining continuity from the previous season.
