Tino Livramento ruled out of World Cup, Chalobah in contention

England defender Tino Livramento is expected to miss the World Cup after a suspected calf injury. The injury comes a day before England’s opening match against Croatia in Dallas, leaving Thomas Tuchel with a replacement deadline of 9 pm BST on Tuesday, 24 hours before the first game. Chelsea full‑back Trevoh Chalobah is the frontrunner to travel to the United States as Livramento’s replacement. Chalobah is favoured over Real Madrid right‑back Trent Alexander‑Arnold, who has not been in Tuchel’s squad since last summer. Other wing‑back options already in the squad include Jarrell Quansah, Ezri Konsa and Djed Spence, while centre‑back Dan Burn can also cover left back. The 23‑year‑old Livramento, capable of playing right or left back, was a backup for Reece James and Nico O’Reilly, who are set to start against Croatia. The World Cup would have been his first major tournament; he has five caps and featured in England’s warm‑up win over New Zealand ten days ago. FIFA regulations allow a player to be replaced in the 26‑man squad up to 24 hours before the team’s first match, provided the replacement comes from the 55‑man provisional list.
