Twente close to signing Thorvaldsen as Ten Hag chases striking upgrade
Filip Thorvaldsen is close to a move to FC Twente for an estimated €5 million, with Erik ten Hag confirming on Sunday that the Tukkers are in talks about signing the Noorse right winger. The 20‑year‑old forward is seen as a good market player and could bolster the club’s attack.
Ten Hag told that Twente "want to bring in a right striker" who possesses speed and good dribbling. "We have a number of candidates and he is certainly a good player," the technical director said with a smile.
He added that the club is in direct talks with both the player and his current side. "We are talking with them, with the club," Ten Hag confirmed.
The transfer fee is reported to be around five million euros. Ten Hag said, "I don’t want to discuss that – those are things that stay internal, but he is definitely a player who is well‑priced in the market."
The conversation also turned to Sam Lammers, who has been relegated to the third‑choice striker role in Enschede. Lammers started the recent match on the bench behind Wout Weghorst and now also behind Lucas Vennegoor and Hesselink, and he has not submitted a request to leave.
Ten Hag explained that the club only scored 58 goals last season, prompting the signing of Weghorst. He praised Vennegoor and Hesselink for their preparation work and noted that Lammers’ position could still change.
If the deal goes through, Thorvaldsen will add the desired pace and dribbling to Twente’s attack at the Grolsch Veste, while Lammers remains a squad player whose future role is still uncertain.
