Van de Ven calls Brobbey ‘annoying’ striker after 5‑1 win

🇳🇱 yesterday

Micky van de Ven praised striker Brian Brobbey as a “vervelende” (annoying) forward after Brobbey netted two goals in the Netherlands’ 5‑1 win over Sweden, highlighting his physical presence and ball‑retention. The defender said the Dutch side could exploit Brobbey’s strengths more often.

"Brian is a vervelende spits om tegen te staan, honderd procent," Van de Ven said, describing the difficulty defenders face when Brobbey receives the ball. He added that once Brobbey has the ball, it becomes hard for opponents to win it back.

Van de Ven noted that Brobbey was one of the standout performers against Sweden, scoring two goals. He emphasized that the striker’s physicality made him a constant threat throughout the match.

Regarding the first goal, Van de Ven explained that Brobbey held the ball before laying it off to Tijjani, allowing the team to continue their attack. He said the hold‑up play was crucial in building the move that led to the opening score.

For the second goal, Van de Ven pointed out that Brobbey positioned himself well in the box after a superb cross from Denzel Dumfries. He described the finish as “fantastic” and credited the timing of the cross.

Van de Ven concluded that using long balls works effectively because Brobbey can either retain possession or draw fouls, creating further opportunities. He stated that these qualities make Brobbey a valuable asset for the Dutch attack.
