Van Hecke signs for Tottenham €60m, Fonville says ceiling
Jan Paul van Hecke completes a €60 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, a move highlighted on the Studio Oranje podcast on Tuesday. The Dutch defender’s switch to the London club is described as a ‘beautiful transfer to a beautiful club’ by pundit Tyrone Fonville.
Tyrone Fonville, the older brother of Curaçao international and NEC defender Deveron Fonville, joined the Studio Oranje discussion. He argued that Van Hecke is not particularly impressive as a centre back.
‘Ik denk zelf dat dit zijn plafond is’, he said, referring to the Dutch defender’s ceiling. Fonville added that while €60 million is a large sum, he does not foresee Van Hecke moving to clubs such as Liverpool or the Madrids of the world.
He also stated, ‘Ik denk ook niet dat hij nog een stap gaat maken, maar wie weet. Ik laat mij graag verrassen.’ indicating doubt about any further step up the hierarchy.
Fonville claimed he would not be scared to face Van Hecke, but named Pepe, Materazzi and Rüdiger as opponents who ‘are not nice guys to face, they really come to kill you.’
Deveron Fonville, a defender for NEC and a Curaçao international, is also featured in the same Studio Oranje episode, which covers the Dutch national team and his World Cup debut.
