Virgil van Dijk Linked to Free Transfer to Galatasaray

Virgil van Dijk is reported to be in talks with Galatasaray for a free transfer. Liverpool face a centre‑back reshuffle as the Dutch defender’s future remains uncertain. Ibrahima Konate, 27, will leave Liverpool on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal, with Real Madrid expected to be his next club. Joe Gomez is also listed as potentially available for sale with one year left on his contract. New head coach Andoni Iraola will be expected to integrate recent signing Jeremy Jacquet into the back line. Giovanni Leoni’s return from injury will also need to be factored into the defensive plans. Galatasaray management have accelerated efforts to sign van Dijk, a player admired by head coach Okan Buruk. The club aims to complete the transfer on a free basis and has intensified contacts, according to a report. Wesley Sneijder, a Galatasaray favourite and van Dijk’s compatriot, is said to be providing information and pushing the move forward. Liverpool have already lost Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson on free transfers, adding to the defensive turnover. Van Dijk’s decision is expected after the FIFA World Cup, where he captains the Dutch national team.
