Watford’s free‑transfer of Ellie Noble sparks Golden Girls revival

Ten goals in 21 league appearances highlight Ellie Noble’s prolific season as she moves to Watford on a free transfer. The 26‑year‑old midfielder joins the Golden Girls as they prepare for the 2026/2027 Barclays WSL2 campaign, following an announcement on the club’s official website this evening.

Noble arrives after a prolific campaign in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division with Plymouth Argyle, where she scored ten goals in twenty‑one league appearances. Her contributions helped The Pilgrims push Watford throughout the title race last season.

She also brings considerable Barclays WSL2 experience, having previously turned out for Lewes, Crystal Palace and Blackburn Rovers in the second tier. Those stints gave her familiarity with the pace and physicality of the division.

A change in direction at Plymouth Argyle over the summer prompted Noble’s exit from the club. The move allows her to return to second‑tier football with Watford.

Watford have historically struggled in the division, but aim to write a new chapter in the 2026/2027 campaign. The club’s objective is to remain in the second tier for longer than a single season.

Noble is Watford’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Golden Girls also secured defender Zara Bailey during the close season.

She will hope to make a significant contribution to Watford’s cause as they bid to remain in the second tier for longer than one season. Her proven goal‑scoring record in the Southern Premier Division gives the Golden Girls a proven attacking option.
