Weight of the name pushes Liam van Nistelrooy toward a leap with PSV U19
The Nistelrooy surname carries weight, but Liam van Nistelrooy has already shown that he wants to build his own personal story. Born in Madrid in 2008, while his father was wearing the Blancos jersey, the young striker scores 6 goals in 5 matches with PSV's U19, attracting the attention of the Dutch media.
From birth in Madrid to the first media spotlight
Liam is the son of Ruud van Nistelrooy, a legend of Dutch football and a key figure with Real Madrid's Galácticos. After abandoning the maternal surname Sllats, he chose to wear his father's name, a move that increased his visibility.
The first major moment of notoriety came last summer, when a goal against Chelsea in the Otten Innovation Cup went viral under the eyes of Ruud watching from the stands.
Now, in the 2026/27 season, the centre‑forward continues to meet expectations: 6 goals in 5 matches with the U19 have prompted PSV to consider a possible first‑team promotion.
Matching his father's numbers in Eindhoven will, however, be a huge challenge: Ruud van Nistelrooy ended his PSV career with 77 goals and 20 assists in 90 appearances.
Liam has only just begun his journey, but the name on the shirt is already a statement of intent for the club's future.
