Why the Dutch FA must chase PSV’s Peter Bosz after Koeman's exit

🇳🇱

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) should set its sights on PSV Eindhoven’s manager Peter Bosz as the next head coach of the Netherlands, even though Bosz recently signed a contract extension with PSV until mid‑2028. Koeman’s imminent departure leaves a vacancy that Bosz, long linked with the role, could fill if the KNVB navigates his existing deal.

During the past season, Peter Bosz was repeatedly named as a leading candidate to replace Ronald Koeman. Bosz’s contract with PSV was prolonged to mid‑2028, binding him to the club for another two years.

Former Dutch international Marciano Vink argued that the KNVB must make a serious attempt to recruit Bosz. He said, “I would just do it… whether you can make it is a second, but in football anything can happen,” emphasizing the need for a proactive approach.

Presenter Milan van Dongen questioned whether the KNVB could even approach PSV for Bosz’s services. Vink responded that the decision ultimately rests with PSV and Bosz, noting the manager’s signed contract and his “full understanding” of the terms.

Bosz has never hidden his ambition to become the Netherlands’ national team coach, a goal he has expressed publicly. His three league championships with PSV underscore his domestic success and bolster his credibility for the international role.

If the KNVB pursues Bosz, it will have to negotiate a release or compensation with PSV, given the contract’s remaining two‑year term. Conversely, Bosz’s willingness to entertain the national job could prompt PSV to reconsider his future, potentially reshaping the club’s managerial plans.
