World Cup Day 6: France, Norway, Argentina, Austria Kick Off

The 2026 World Cup continues on Tuesday, June 16 with Groups I and J in action. Four matches are scheduled: France versus Senegal in New Jersey, Iraq versus Norway in Boston, Argentina versus Algeria in Kansas City, and Austria versus Jordan in Santa Clara. France, the 2022 World Cup runners-up, play under departing manager Didier Deschamps. Paul Pogba says the 2026 squad is better than the 2022 team. Senegal, who upset France in 2002 and reached the round of 16 in 2022, seek points against a strong French side. Norway return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998, led by striker Erling Haaland of Manchester City. Martin Ødegaard and Alexander Sørloth also feature in the Norwegian lineup. Iraq aim for their first World Cup point after Aymen Hussein scored nine goals in qualifying. Argentina, defending champions coached by Lionel Scaloni, face Algeria while Lionel Messi could be playing his final games for the side. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez returned to training after a fractured ring finger. Algeria miss defender Ramy Bensebaini due to injury. Austria return after a 28-year absence, following a ninth-place finish at the 2024 Euros. David Alaba, Marcel Sabitzer and Marko Arnautović lead the side under manager Ralf Rangnick's high‑press system. Jordan qualified automatically after reaching the Arab Cup final and are coached by Jamal Sellami. The France‑Senegal match is at East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Iraq‑Norway game in Boston, the Argentina‑Algeria clash in Kansas City, Missouri, and Austria‑Jordan in Santa Clara, California. All four matches are televised on Fox, with the Austria‑Jordan game on FS1. With eight third‑place teams advancing, any of the four fixtures could produce a surprise for the Round of 32.
