WRC chaos in Finland: champion Ogier’s crash and hospital stay

The World Rally Championship faced a dramatic weekend at the Finland (Finlandia) Rally when multiple top drivers crashed, most notably nine‑time champion Sébastien Ogier, who rolled his Toyota, suffered several tumbles and was taken to hospital for observation alongside his co‑driver Julien Ingrassia.

The event also saw crashes involving Martins Sesks and Elfyn Evans, adding to the day's mishaps.

Ogier shares the record for most titles with Sébastien Loeb, both holding nine championships.

During the 17th special stage, Ogier lost control on a fast corner, veered off the road into a forest of trees, spun multiple times and the car rolled.

"During the 17th special, Ogier left the track in a fast corner. Both he and his co‑driver Julien Ingrassia managed to exit the car unaided and without serious injuries," the official Toyota team said.

Nevertheless, the pair were taken to hospital and will spend the night under observation.

Ogier posted on social media: "Unfortunately we went off the road in SS17 today. Julien and I have both gone to hospital for some checks and we will stay overnight as precaution after the heavy impact. But we both feel ok which is the most important."

He added thanks to the team for a resilient car and said they will rest and aim to return to full fitness soon.
