Castro Argentina: striker promises commitment with Roma
The Argentine striker Santiago Castro, interviewed by TNT Sport before returning to Roma from Buenos Aires, said he wants to stay in Argentina forever and that to do so he will have to work hard with Roma. His remarks came after the recent weeks with the Albiceleste, culminating with the captain Lionel Messi's farewell from the national team.
Messi's words and the memory of the farewell
Castro recalled Messi's words before the last match: “Messi had told us that we should enjoy his final game, but the goal was to win out of respect for the fans present because there are no friendlies. That is the essence of the national team.”
The young striker then confessed that he has not yet fully processed the moment lived: “I will never fully realize it. I have a couple of photos that I looked at all night and I will keep doing so in the coming days. I enjoyed the days with Messi and I am very happy.”
He added that Messi is “one of the group like everyone else and he wants us to treat him like anyone else.”
Regarding the national team experience, Castro stated: “Getting here is the best. I always want to be there and give my contribution, but to do that I have to work hard with Roma. Representing Argentina is a source of pride.”
Finally, he quoted coach Francesco Scaloni: “The same things came up at the press conference. Now another period of transition awaits us and we must be ready, take a step forward and follow the example of the more experienced players in the squad.”
