Demichelis's first day at Leipzig: building an attack-mode squad
New head coach Martín Demichelis arrived at RB Leipzig’s Cottaweg training centre to begin work on the 2026/2027 season. The club’s players are scheduled to return for physical tests on July 11, leaving Demichelis to start pre‑season preparations alone in early July.
Demichelis spent his first day meeting the club’s staff and touring the facilities, including the youth academy. He immediately launched preparations for the upcoming pre‑season, signalling an early start to his tenure.
Squad planning has become the top priority for the new coach. He is collaborating with managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer and sporting director Sebastian Schuppan on building the team.
Schäfer described Demichelis as the ideal choice for the role. According to Schäfer, the coach perfectly blends tactics, physical demands and passion.
Demichelis has outlined a promised style of ‘attack‑mode football’. The approach emphasizes extreme intensity, high pressing, quick ball recovery and vertical transitions.
Until the first‑team squad reconvenes, Demichelis will use the period to adapt to the club’s structure. He aims to make key decisions that will shape the start of the new season.
