Former England greats argue Barcelona should snap up Kane

🇬🇧

Barcelona appear to be hunting a proven scorer as they look to replace ageing firepower and revive a strategy focused on global branding. With Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane entering the final year of his contract, English icons argue the Catalan giants could benefit from his reliability and ambition.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said he understands why Barcelona might target Kane. “I understand why Barcelona might want him,” Neville told , noting the club’s appetite for players who can deliver consistency at the highest level.

Neville highlighted Kane’s dependability, calling him an “undisputed goalscorer” who meets expectations. “Kane is reliable, and in football – as in life – you want reliability,” he added, stressing the striker’s fit for a team aspiring to win it all.

Kane’s deal with Bayern Munich expires after the 2024‑25 season, leaving only one year on his contract. The lingering uncertainty means Barcelona’s interest is unlikely to fade before the window closes.

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward Michael Owen questioned the wisdom of Kane’s move to Bayern in the first place. “My only complaint about Harry is his move to Bayern; he deserves better than the Bundesliga,” Owen argued.

Owen argued that domestic success with Bayern does not enhance Kane’s legacy because the club routinely dominates the German league, noting that “Winning Bundesliga titles with Bayern was never going to define his greatness.” He added that a Champions League triumph would change the narrative, and both former players suggest Barcelona’s pursuit could reshape Kane’s career trajectory.
