Genk isolates Adedeji‑Sternberg as Bruges interest stalls
Noah Adedeji‑Sternberg has told KRC Genk he wishes to join Club de Brugge, yet the two clubs have not reached an agreement. While his transfer remains pending, the 22‑year‑old winger is training individually at Genk instead of with the first‑team squad.
reported that the young winger will begin his pre‑season preparation with solo sessions, a routine also applied to Hendrik Van Crombrugge, Ken Nkuba and Mujaid Sadick. All four are kept apart from the main group as their transfer situations remain unresolved.
Head coach Nicky Hayen has stated he will only start the pre‑season with players he expects to feature and contribute next season. Consequently, he does not consider Van Crombrugge, Nkuba or Sadick suitable for the upcoming campaign while negotiations for Adedeji‑Sternberg continue.
Adedeji‑Sternberg’s agent Dimitri de Condé informed his client’s desire to continue his career with the Blauw in Zwart on Friday. To date, Club de Brugge has not approached KRC Genk, and no discussions on a possible transfer have begun.
The Antwerp‑born player is under contract with KRC Genk until June 2028, a deal the club hoped to extend despite his long‑term contract. Valued at €4 million by Transfermarkt, he is a Belgian U21 international and regarded as one of Genk’s most promising talents.
This season he featured in 37 matches, scoring one goal and providing three assists. The statistics underline his role as a young winger for the Limburg side.
Genk’s players are slated for the customary medical examinations on Monday, with Adedeji‑Sternberg expected to attend. Should he skip the appointment, the club warned he would face severe financial penalties.
The summer is set to be prolonged and tense for all parties if Club de Brugge does not act swiftly. Both clubs remain on a stand‑still while the player’s future hangs in the balance.
