Getafe seeks Sancho to boost the flanks despite salary caps

Getafe has confirmed that it is in talks with the 26‑year‑old Englishman Jadon Sancho, who is available as a free agent after his departure from Manchester United. The club is looking for a winger to expand the options of coach José Bordalas, now that the 33‑year‑old striker Juanmi is sidelined by a knee injury.

Financial and regulatory obstacles

However, Getafe is at the ceiling of its wage spending and is under the supervision of the League, meaning every new signing must be weighed carefully. An earlier transfer of Dani Carvajal seemed to stall because of the same restrictions, but the club eventually found a solution.

Sancho might have to accept a lower salary than the million‑pound contract he had at United, a condition that still needs to be approved by the League. If Juanmi remains out of action longer, space could be freed up in the player budget, provided the League agrees.

The English winger is currently training with amateur club Flixton to keep his fitness up, after earlier this summer he was also linked with clubs in Europe and an adventure in Saudi Arabia. According to the BBC, Sancho wants to work outside England again after his relatively unsuccessful spell in Manchester.

Getafe chairman Ángel Torres confirmed on Thursday the talks with Sancho to Spanish media: ‘He is an interesting player that the coach would like. We still want to bring in a player.’ The deal is not yet a fact, but the club hopes to reach an agreement soon.
